Branding with The Principles
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
When it comes to your brand, you have to be more than just a logo. What you represent sends a message without you having to say a word. Incorporating certain principles, will give you the foundation needed to withstand any unforeseeable circumstance. In this episode Raymundo is joined by Ruben Soilla to discuss factors that could help you with your brand and anything else you apply them to.

mundo quote of day
is your holes. Raimundo welcome to my show. Love to have you back. And if this is your first time, I like to welcome you. We got another one for you today. This is episode 24, Brandon with the principles. An old today's episode. I got a special guests. Who was part of. Helping make the remove those show. It was only a matter of time. But you know first things first let's go It's Ben moon does quote of the day And today's quota today. Is brought to you by me and my son, Instagram. But it was at the Bowman. I was writing an episode, I felt like compelled to use it. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. So it's like the metamorphosis from turning your goals into accomplishments, which give you that motivation to keep going. There's some type of bridge that you must cross to get to the land of success. And, uh, you don't want it to be the Rick Grimes bridge. No punches on musician on it. Especially if you've been on the opposite side of where you want to be. To get to that place where you talking about. What you've done. Instead of what you going to do. Now you want another conversation? people going to start talking about Chu. Sometimes it's going to be a little hate, hate. I feel like you're like, some people get surprised when they get hated on, but. What do you expect? Sometimes it comes from. You guys being from the same place or just, just. You guys even looking the same and you doing it. And they not. it makes people feel a certain way, but. We all capable of great things. It's just who's ready to get disciplined. Who's ready to show dedication and who's ready to be determined. Which is a. What brings me to this episode today? But to wrap up the quote. you're going to need some tools. it's going to be a journey to get on that other side. Easier said than done. But once it's done. You could add that to your story. And. Maybe there's a follow. But yeah man let's get into the episode
Raymundoso yeah, we talk about the principles, the principles of success. I wanted to bring a special guests, to the Raimundo show who was part of bringing the vision to life. the classic cover would be thinking about some shit, thinking about my master plan, There's a, this guys help you put it together. And also my logo, you know what I'm saying? Which identifies as my brand, I got me to talk about his, so I want to walk up to the Ray bulldoze show Rubin. So Lou was the shop man
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleswell, what's going on, bro?
Raymundochallenge alone, bro. How you man,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI'm good, man. I can't complain. Life is good. It's moving one step at a time. So this is great.
Raymundowhere am I of you? If you ain't going to play the man you already in the right direction.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd trust me, bro, who wants to hear the complainant?
RaymundoYeah,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYou can't complain. Nobody want to hear.
Raymundothat's a fact. tell the listeners where you from and what you do.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAll right, everyone. First of all, my name is Ruth AKA. So Ella from Bushwick artists from Bushwick.
RaymundoHello? Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello. He's from Bushwick, my hometown, his home town, anytime somebody Bushwick on the show, his love man. So anyway,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesThat's it is what it comes from Bushwick. Uh, been doing this art shit for practically my whole. yeah, I just wanted to kick it up a notch, take it to a whole new level. And we in now
Raymundonice. So Takoma. while I wanted to let the listeners know how we know each other, we, um, met high school, shout out the EBC. ESA
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesTo ABC.
RaymundoYes, sir. Yes. Ma'am.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI was the little fat, little fat, quiet kid, and this guy over here was loud mouth. So
RaymundoThe loud mouse move guy.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleswith the smooth, smooth, loud mode, dude, I knew who he was by the time I fucking finished my first week.
RaymundoYour first of many people from ABC that eventually be on the show.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesRight. Well, we, Hey, what's uh, I mean, Everybody has a different account of what, how ABC went down. I kind of enjoyed it, but it's all good.
RaymundoYeah. I mean, it's a different for everybody, but having half a day, every Wednesday
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesfax the
Raymundofucking big. That was nap session for me all the time.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesC this might, this might incriminate me, sorry to all my old school teachers that you know, in there, but half day Wednesdays, no show Wednesdays was the thing, you know, you just have to keep y'all
Raymundodamn. I missed that part.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesadd definitely parts of it now.
RaymundoDamn those show Wednesday, shit, fuck around knowing me. I wanted the notional Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesno. no. When you, so you seem like you had that planned out. I mean, listen, this, this pay attention to my man. Then he show up Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. Are we still here?
RaymundoI'm saying, I wouldn't know, but you know what, actually, um, I love school, man. I was, I got so much attention. It was just like, I feel like I was on a fucking sit-com every time, every time I came into the school, I heard the volume of applause.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd made you look forward to going,
RaymundoI wanted to listen to this to know. And I want, when did you discover your passion for.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesActually it started when I was probably like eight or nine years old. I used to watch nothing but cartoons. This is all I
RaymundoHello.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd you know, dragon ball Z was a big, big thing for me growing up. And I used to get the, exactly. I used to get the color of. But instead of coloring, I would take tracing paper and just trace the figures and try to cover them anywhere that I wanted. And tracing turned into. Let me try this without the paper. I mean, without the, without the trace. And so I would start, it'd be horrible, crumble it up, throw it, get mad, frustrated, cry. It's just all that shit. And then I just kept getting kept growing at it. When they born from there. I had a hiatus probably from like sixth grade through high school. Cause I didn't know what I wanted to do. And it re when I got to college, it started up again
RaymundoSo that's when you got ill with it as a new guy.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesbasically all puns intended. Yes.
RaymundoYo, I wish I knew how to draw, man. I wanted to draw so bad, but like, I didn't have the patience for it. I still draw the same way I did when I was seven. Like when I learned how to drive seven, I still drove the same way at 35. Like that's a fucking,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesBut see, it's just, it's just like anything. It's just, you put a little bit of time and so in a day could be 20 minutes a day. And if you continue to do it, you'll get better at it. It's not a skill that nobody can
Raymundothat's a fact. I I've heard stories of folks, like when they 60 seventies picking up a new skill and fuck in accelerated it, like it's never too late. Yeah.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYou could be 90. And if you develop something that you love to do, just do it.
Raymundoas long as I make you happy, you love doing it. Why the fuck? Why not? are you currently making logos only all work for people? That's what they do on a regular,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesCurrently. Yes. it's more of, well, I can't really get too much into details cause the NBA's that I had to, but it's more on the, uh, graphic design front. It's more on the promotional side and pushing people's work out. But I can say that I do a lot of sports related work for a company. Shout out to divine sports.
Raymundoyou know, it's
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesSo I do a lot of work for them, like promoting different players and all that other stuff, but yeah, I'm still, I still keep it more. Um, um, I just keep it rolling. I don't stop.
Raymundobro. You really hustling you. How can I get that Cassidy in the background?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesJust actually listened to that song and on the way home, I'm not going to lie.
RaymundoClass, you know, it was crazy. It was a classic album and that's the year he went to jail and he couldn't even promote that shit. But he did. That was a well put together album
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesIt really wasn't Swiss beats had a lot of credit for
Raymundowhere that's a fact, his first album started the trash, like only like three songs. I like it, but what I like, and it was, Yeah. I want the people to see it in action. Like it was great working with you to come up with the, the logo and the cover, You made it a smooth transition.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI try to make the process as smooth as possible was easy as possible.
Raymundomore about, you and your brand. So, yeah. So tell me, a little bit more about the, and a brand. Like how did it come together? the origin story, so to speak.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesBasically. So, so IL is actually my last name. My last name is pronounced EDA is I O H you know, the two ELLs in Spanish make the adjustment, but everybody says it wrong. Everybody always said Yeah. Basically. So I decided to put the play on words. I decided to, you know what, let me take it and run with it. So I put, so Ella basically, because it's me, it started off as just me being me and I never had a logo for it. I had a name, I never had a logo until I used to do the weekly comic series. I don't know if you remember
Raymundothat's what made me hit you up in the first place. Cause I said, yo, I know somebody who does art Rubin, the fire as comics like that. That's part of the whole to make another reminder when I'm actually year
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesbasically I, there was a frame that I drew of myself angry at getting so many products and I couldn't get them done. And I saw like a very, like a passionate emotion. So I grabbed the face and I started playing with it in Photoshop. I was like, you know what, let me just see how this goes. And then basically, I then took my name. So I was like, what am I? So Phil at? Because everyone's like, yo, you're Ella doing this. You fail at doing this everywhere I go. Everybody's like, it's the ELA, the three 11 minute, like everybody starts rapping the fucking name. I decided to put my face on with the bar, cross my eyes that just says so ill. And then I would, people would ask me, yo, why are you covering your eyes? I said, because I wanted to represent that. I'm seeing the word. As in what everyone is so ill at doing. So. So if I see you doing your podcasting, I don't want you to see, I don't want to see you just from my eyes. I want to see what you're so ill at doing, which is podcasting, which is being a father, which is what you do. That's what you're so ill, but it doesn't pertain to just artists. Yeah. I could see a carpenter. He's so ill at being a carpenter. Somebody dedicated to the gym. So ill and being top fuzzy, being a fucking workout artist, being a magician, being a cook, being a nurse, anything. It's how I want the world now, how I want the world to
Raymundohow do you want to perceive everybody?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesso that's why the bars across my eyes, and this is my face because it's me. That's just basically what I want to see. So basically, so Ella came from me just having a last name to me, seeing what the world is. So ill I doing.
Raymundothat's one of the dopest or just stories or fucking for brand that's you have to put that somewhere.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesOh, I got it in writing, bro. Don't worry about it.
RaymundoCool. That shit that's fire, man. Like it's stories like that, man. I make you, want to figure your shit out?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd it wasn't always like that. It's more of a, you know, growing up in Bush before it turned into what Bushwick is now, you know, you used to be, if you walk down the street, you didn't know if you had to put your fist up, you didn't know if you had to guard what you had because you're walking on Bushwick itself was a fucking jungle
RaymundoOh, that's a fact. Yeah, this. I know she change. I remember when I will go, like go to like they, they opened up with 24 hour subways on you don't murder Knickerbocker. When I will go there and I will
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesright down Bleecker.
Raymundoeh, I will take my headphones off. Cause you know be alert. You know what I'm saying? I will never certain places I will never leave my headphones on like, oh, I'll have the music low as fuck. But I noticed it started to get a better when I started wearing it in blast fucking music. Now I'm not worried about
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd for the viewers that don't know where the subway is, um, it's on Myrtle and Bleaker. He says he had to lower his headphone. So he could hear across the street is the 83rd precinct. That's how bad it was.
Raymundoyour yo your crazy Cassius is a really do fucking grimy shit around the co I got jumped on Bleecker and Irving two blocks, two blocks on the stage. I see one cops.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd you won't, they used to be fighting through anything across the street, from the train, from the, um, police station. And no cop would show up. They would watch.
RaymundoYeah. I remember we smoked bud in 3 83. Like we was really wild. You know
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesWith this awhile
Raymundobut you know, it was crazy as dangerous as it was. We all still miss it. We have a lot of memories, where am I shout out the old Bushwick, anybody who's from old Bushwick? we got some legends in the game, legends in the game. We already let us right now. We just got the whole world, just got to get it. We just, they gonna get it eventually.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYup.
Raymundoso like what, like when it comes to your brand, like, what's your soul mission?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesMy sole mission through the brand is to make people feel good about themselves. No matter what they do. I don't care if like there's a lot of shit happens in life. Everybody goes through something. The purpose is, I want you to put the hoodie on or this shirt and just, you just feel good about yourself. That's just.
RaymundoIs that a word or some shirt that says, Fuck the world. Like, nah, man, Western shit. That's gonna make you think about what you gotta do. What you got to get done, what you gotta live by We need more people to find ways to reach people that, things they alone or to make people feel good. Not everybody is, uh, concerned about that, but you gotta appreciate the people that, do you got comedians, you got therapists, you got all types of people that you're just regular people like me that just. Making a difference in someone's day. Like that should make you want to do it more.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAbsolutely. It even simple. It even comes out simple as that. Like you go out into this world and I guarantee you'll hear 10 negative things first, before you hear one,
RaymundoUm,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesyou can hit 10 negative things before somebody says good morning to you.
Raymundowhere am I? Negativity, spreads, facet, and butter. You hear
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYep. I'm talking about warm, but not that shit. Shut up the
Raymundoworld war? That,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesswipe across.
Raymundothat microwave bottle. I said, I w everything you're doing, like your videos, which of you don't follow him on social media, he has a great videos with great messages, the clothing line, and you've also been featured on another podcast. Uh, I want to say the CCTV CTB.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesSalad to cook the ball. My main cook, the wild he's. my barber.
RaymundoOh, he's.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd I'm inside the park as the,
RaymundoOkay. Cool. Cool. Yeah. Shout out, shout out to the bobble. Cook, the Baba, soda episode was dope.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesWe have a lot of fun, man.
RaymundoWell, I ain't go first. You know, I got a mixer and I'm like, I haven't known how to use it, but he was having fun with that shit. It was just like sound effects on the face. I'm like, y'all want to do that shit. I'll put my
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYeah, because he's into music.
Raymundohow he does music.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesHe does music. So he knows about using the tools. And so he incorporated into what he's doing with his show.
RaymundoOkay. is there another way you plan to get your messages across?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAny by any means necessary, honestly. And I'm focusing on that now I'm actually focusing on marketing more. I'm not even, and the crazy part about us and people listening to this may think I'm crazy. Like I have a clothing line and I don't really care how much money the clothing might make. I don't, I'm making it because the message is more important. I want somebody to put the stuff on and feel good at what they're doing rather than, you know, me worried about, oh, how much am I going to make this? Do I make profit? Absolutely. Like, that's what it is, but it's not the main focus of what I want. I want people to really just be out there with this messes on the back, like just going around and be like, yo do was really dedicated to what he's doing and he's determined and what he wants to do and the discipline to do it. That's how I'm seeing it. That's how I want it to be. I've said it. I've always, I told my boy, one of my boys that I would be happy if I'd rather see my stuff on someone in a gym supermarket mechanic shop. I don't care if it got grease on it. I don't give a fuck. It's all sweated out. I'd rather that than the fashion boutique store, because that means people are putting in the work while wearing what it is that they want to do.
RaymundoThat's a fact. So I know some dude out there, you better not put the girls on.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAll of those, all of those guys. I apologize. I have a lot of female customers that have bought them. So I'm just
RaymundoSpeaking of that, actually my girl was, Yeah. But you know what? I respect that because with the podcasts, I want to make people feel good. I want to make a difference. but I do care about that gash. I got twins, they got beat that brag.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesUh, absolutely 100%. Like I'm not here to say that it's like, it's not about it. Like, of course I wouldn't be making it if I didn't make something from it,
RaymundoOf course, of course
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI have a certain stock. I have a certain inventory of each,
RaymundoYeah.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleswhether I sell one or 10 I'm content with it. I just, if I always, so one I don't get for, I have 19 different outfits that I could with.
RaymundoYeah. Let me say something. When you grateful you get more, that's the fucking trick. That's the fucking law and I don't need to talk about cause they just want you to be all the secret. I read the secret. There's more to the secret you hurt
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI'll tell you straight up on my first run. I made like 10 hats, right? I sold three of them. This is my first one. This was before I started even
Raymundowait. Speaking of that, where's my hat.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesSee what happened was listen,
RaymundoI forgot about the high. Yeah, that was when I was living in greens.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI don't even remember which one it is. Honestly. I got them all around me. So, you know, whichever one you want, just let me
RaymundoI should have told you before you sent the hoodie, that's all good though. I'll be, you know what I'm saying? I'll be back into yoga at some point.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesso I basically, I sold three hats out of a certain stock and I was happy as shit. You have no idea. I had people like, oh, but you only sold three out of acid. That's three more than one. So that one I had. Like I was ecstatic, bro. Like you should have said I was hype out in boxes so I could ship them in. It was great.
RaymundoYo, you see that? That's another thing. Um, as something I haven't bought up on, on the season yet, but you'll have an enthusiasm makes a difference. Like the fact that. Like just selling three makes you happy, that's the mindset people gotta have, man. Like it's, it's the journey. You got to enjoy the journey, on your way to the destination. That's as fire, bro.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleseven simpler. I didn't want to wake up one day and regret not doing it.
RaymundoYo regret as a bitch regret as a bitch. I'm glad you brought that up. My mom had a guest Barry. He mentioned that too. He says better. When he's on his last day, guests here, at least he knows he gave it all he got. if you do research a lot of people on their death bed, they only talk about the shit that they didn't do. I wanted to cover the principles that are your main focus and, um, they should honestly be anyone's main focus when it comes to life because these principles will make a hell of a difference. they'll help you make a serious change. and I wanted to cover the first one, which is a dedication being dedicated, which is being committed to a task purpose, a goal. So I wanted to cover the purpose part, like, how does someone like find their purpose? how did you find yours?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesBasically I've found it by doing something that literally made me smile. It just felt good. somebody's purposes. There's no clear cut definition because your purpose is different from my purpose. But what I will say is if you wake up in the morning and you think about doing a certain thing and it gives you energy, that's your purpose.
RaymundoMm.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd it could be anything you could wake up your, I can't wait to feed my baby. Your purpose is that you can't wait to see them laugh. They giggle blow up. They've died. As you know, you've all make jokes about. It's literally what you feel good doing? You wake up in the morning and you're just like, I'm ready to tackle it. I'm ready to get it. It's wrong. It's still work. It's you're still putting in work, but it's more of a, I feel better doing this than doing something.
Raymundothat's a fact you know, what helped me realize mine is just whenever I get like, really lost in something I can't think about any bullshit or anything negative and I feel a crazy passion for it. Like I just want to get better, even when I make a mistake or there's a lot of episodes I do that. I don't like the way I sound will come out, but I'm like, yo, I'm like, I have to make it no matter what. So, Speaking of the podcast, trying new things, it can be a way to help you, uh, find your purpose because you never know, you might.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesfrom your comfort zone, we'll help you find your purpose.
RaymundoThat's a fact the comfort zone. You know what I'm saying with dreams go to die, but, um, imagine a comfort zone and experiencing something different that you wouldn't have known unless you stepped out of the normal, what you used to. So,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYep.
RaymundoAnother thing that can help you find your purpose is, hanging out with people that inspire you, oh, associating yourself with people that inspire you. Ain't gonna front you. You're one of the people that when I talk to you after I get inspired, I want to do some shit. My best friend, my girl, I got start. You got some people you talk to and be like, yo, I got to step it up. So
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesand this ho it's So hard to find that nowadays that's the crazy part.
Raymundono worries.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesCause like, eh, you've got to hold on to those kinds of people, man. Cause there's a lot of you pick up the phone and be like, yo, I can't believe this should happen today. All right. It happened. Sorry that it happened. I, how we move in. Well, a lot of people don't like to move forward
RaymundoYeah, man, like getting caught in that cycle of the past. just, it makes you realize like your brain doesn't know the difference of going through it before. And then, so all you're doing is making your brain, we lived through Sociedad. They didn't like the first time.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesand then you get mad. Cause you're thinking
RaymundoYeah. But like, yo, you think about this, but you notice cases. Sometimes I got, I used the blue cup theory. If I tell you another thing about the blue cup, I don't think about the blue coat, but you don't have to focus on the blue coat. Cause there's only so many things you can focus on now once. So. What are some examples of dedicated people?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI could be. I could just bring it to people from my own life,
RaymundoWait, wait, can can I give you one, um, that manager that you would think they, the CEO, but
They just didn't manage it.
Raymundodon't mother fuckers be dedicated. You know what I'm saying? They dedicated to the job. Like they don't give a fuck. Like they will snitch on you. They'll do what they gotta do to keep their job.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesBy any means necessary.
Raymundome. Am I gonna make shit?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesHonestly, the other, a clear cut example about people like dedicated people. That's not like personal because obviously I have personal people in my life that not everybody would know, but bodybuilders, bro,
Raymundofacts.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthat's all hold different love. That's put in your body to extreme stress and you've got to wake up and do it every
Raymundowithout the steroids don't cause no cheap
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesEven with it, bro, even with, you know what we not even going to sit, we're not even going to anybody. If you want the juice, do you moment?
Raymundoshit buried boss just texted me, bro. My full bag of bonds just texted me, you know, my fault,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesit's crazy. McGuire just hit me up.
Raymundono
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesit's a whole different, it's a whole different ball game. Like they eat, they don't even enjoy eating. They're doing it because it gives them a certain physique. It gives them the results that they need. And that's just, just taking it off like checklists every day.
Raymundowere in. And as I was saying with dedication, you can be dedicated to, different things though. Bodybuilders, they gotta dedicate themselves to model for. And then, you know, some of them go back to it. Some of them just get ready for the next one. Depends on the person. people in the military,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesNavy seal specifically. That's volunteer. That's a voluntary thing.
Raymundoand maybe see us, they, the, they, the elite of the elite, they go through
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYeah. Top-notch
Raymundowhere, when a stranger is string, they go through some shit.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesstrenuous.
RaymundoYeah. They go through some strenuous, training, to the point that if they're in a crowded room, they could spot each other. Like the shit is, I'm not the research when, um, when I saw that movie,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleswell, what movie did you see that made you do some research, bro? Yeah, it was a good movie. That was a good.
RaymundoYeah. I don't know, man, sometimes when is hit or miss, but that was actually a really good movie. Like just, just even the fact that it was based on a true story.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesThis is true.
Raymundolike somebody went through that shit.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI don't, I don't, I wouldn't want to go through
Raymundonah, I wouldn't want to do that actually. You know what, speaking to people in your circle, who is the most dedicated person in your circle give them a shout out
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesmy files straight up
RaymundoI know. He'll appreciate
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesnow he's retired.
RaymundoOkay.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesHe retired now, but that man has from day one, since I was born, has been the most dedicated person. And his dedication was being the dad that. he never had.
RaymundoSo you gotta, you got a hustler VMA.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesbasically, on it. Like, no matter what. He did what he had to do to make sure we were good. Me and my brother and my sister image of all of us was good. He's the, he's the reason why I do this. Basically he showed me what it is to be that he was always with a smile on his face, even though a lot of people are intimidated by him because he just has a crazy poker face. But he's, he's the reason why I It looks like he's a, he got that. Don't fuck on me. Straight up.
RaymundoWhat's his name?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesMy past name? is Roberto.
RaymundoRoberto.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesThat's what I do again, old, you know,
Raymundoabout that answer though. That, pretty much again, the season is based on. my transition of fatherhood. So, this is yours, this is not scripted, ladies and gentlemen, this is real life shit.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthere was no script going on here. This is me and him.
RaymundoUm, is it possible to be dedicated to more than one thing,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesyou only want a prime example,
RaymundoYeah.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleslook at your cell phone number.
RaymundoThat's a fact.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYou're dedicated to doing this podcast. They dedicated the two gorgeous babies that you got and you also dedicated to being probably the best partner for your girl. So that's the real thing that you're dedicated to that you're doing simultaneous
RaymundoSee those, they say you should have multitask, but those things you can multitask
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesit's hard. Don't get me wrong. Like there's nothing about it. That's easy.
Raymundothat's what I'm going through now. Like trying to find the balance, trying to give them like they best down. But at the same time, I want them to know that their dad is doing everything. He can I want them to say what you just said, I want them to really be like, yo, my dad know he did it. he, he went for it. Like he said, he said the path, like my whole goal was to break the generational curse I don't want my kids to do stuff just because society says is the cool thing that blew me. And I want them to really like, yo, if this makes you happy, Fucking do it. So I'm trying to make that path, you know what I'm saying? So,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesWhat was it that I say, cause a lot of people say they want to break the generational curse. My thing is my philosophy on that is I acknowledge that the generational curse. And start your own
Raymundoand start showing that's a
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesas you might not be able to break it. If you've got family or anything like that, that stuck on it. That's cool. That's all I know. You're not breaking away from it. You're just starting your own, but you're acknowledging that as there, cause to be honest, would you be you, if that generational curse was
Raymundoas a fact, I wouldn't, as a fact, I feel like it's a, it's a generational thing. Like, would you didn't get like the things you didn't get, even if you got a lot, do you want the kids to get what you got? And then some, you know,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principles100% you want them to get everything?
Raymundodefinitely not, hating on anybody who. Not even trying to change it or think there's any wrong with the Curtis, you know, you might not even think it was a curse, but I just know for me, like again, I just want them to really certainly want them to be happy and do what they love.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAbsolutely. Exactly.
But yeah, this was a great first half. Let's get into that Britta.
RaymundoBut yeah, the next principle one that the cover was a termination, pretty much to make a decision, to achieve the goal you desire and like my definition for it.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesIt's determination just follows up what you dedicated with now. There's no order. Then these are my S my specific orders that are dedicated, determined, and discipline. I have a saying that it goes as I'm dedicated to what I want in life is determined to get it done and disciplined enough to work at it every day. That's that's the same for what is it? Everybody could be different, but to be determined is it's more of, I want it. I want that. I'm going to go get it. I'm going to go get the determination could be you're determined to get like the new Audi that came up. You've got the pictures on the wall now, what are you going to do to get it? That's your determination? Your goal is that That's what you want. And That's just.
RaymundoThat's not fun. That's great examples. Those are great examples.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesdefinitely one of my examples,
Raymundoso when you determined, it's like you make a decision and then you go for it and do a show like that. I feel like helps you stay in control. As human beings, we love being in control of what we doing and, there's power in being able to make a decision. Cause there's a lot of indecisive people out there. Like, there's many reasons why you could be in the size of, but inform experience. I hate when I don't know what to do, but not then. It helps me more than just making the decision and sticking to it. that's how it's supposed to go.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesand this is a hard thing to do too, because you know, in making one decision, you got to stop doing.
RaymundoYeah.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesyou make
RaymundoI'll just be guest sacrifice.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYeah. You make a decision like, well, I made this decision to start this clothing line. I'm a one man shop. Like I'm really marketing it. I'm not making it shout out to, oh, snaps. My, my, my guy, Jason, he's the one that makes them. But, um, that's, it's just more of a, all right. Now I'm doing this now. I'm taking time away from other things to push this out. Cause this is not, it's not oh one click. One thing. Boom. It's done. No, it may be simple for some people you click it, you buy it. But behind that is me going, oh shit. Another order. Fuck. Let me see if I got enough packaging supplies. Okay. I do. Let me print out this label. Fuck the printer. I don't want to work now. I got to go find another one. So then tape it instead of the label, not going on to then running to the post office between your regular work hours. Like, fuck. It would be late if I don't put this out. So that's what a lot of people don't see, but that's my determining. No matter what I'm going to get that done
Raymundokeeps you on that track.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleskeeps me young
RaymundoDetermination, it builds trust in you because, you're, you're going forward with something you said you was going to go forward with. And I think that's important, man. When you, when you put it out there and you actually follow. How can you not feel good after, like, when you say you did it like, yo, you did it, you wrote it down in some cases you went after it and got it done. Like, but again, by any means,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesby any means, necessary. And it's sometimes it's not, I have big goals, but it's the little ones that mean the most. So like just starting the clothing line was this one thing that I wanted to do and I started it.
Raymundoyou
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleshave stopped there.
Raymundoa lot of, a little, as of being a lot later,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesThat is true. You keep pulling, you keep putting three ounces of water in a gallon and you keep filling up three ounces, three ounces. That's the best you're going to hit that 1 28.
Raymundoactually going to be a fool. do you have your own way of keeping yourself, you know, on track when obstacles. Uh
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI do. And it's literally, it may sound simple, but above my desk, I can't really, it won't show it, but I have the words in calligraphy on my wall, dedication, determination, and this, so.
Raymundoof people for the people that don't know what calligraphy is, uh, to the listeners that don't know
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesOkay. It's a very, it's like a fancy script. It's a very fancy script. Like how words are written. It's very, you see a lot of people with tattoos that if they have the words and they got the script with like the loops in it and all that other stuff, that's, that's like calligraphy stuff. it's a very old style of writing.
RaymundoOkay. Okay.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesSo yeah, that's what I have in my own personal space to keep me going. Cause there's days where wake up and I just be like, y'all just want to take a day off. I don't want to do none of this. I don't want to go to the gym. I don't want to do this. And then I just look up at it and this little bro, get some.
Raymundoeverybody has their own ways of, keeping them going in. You know what I'm saying? You got to find what works for you before. It used to be, for me, used to be an alarm clock helicopter. They used to fly in the room in the long kind of wouldn't fucking go off until I found the hell. I wanted to ask you, uh,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI just pictured that, by the way, just letting you know, I just picked it that, by the way you chase the fucking helicopter,
Raymundoand I got a thing. I have that thing against, like, I have a beef with electronic. Like one of my dreams is to go somewhere where I can fucking break a TV or iPhone, a laptop. Like I got a, I got a problem. I ain't gonna
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthey have no, they have.
Raymundocause it don't bother me, but yeah, I'm going to definitely go to one of them shits, but I want to, I can't wait to like, I got, I'm a millionaire right here, but when I'm physically, you know, a millionaire or billionaire, yeah, I'm gonna bring my own shit. It just, by some other advice again, like, don't go like, fuck that. I want to buy a brick, like on my phone, I want my phone to fuck up and I want to break it just cause I knew I could buy another one.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthat's that's. That's good. But if you're going to do your laptop, transfer your files over first. Yeah. Because that'll be a different kind of pain.
RaymundoEverything's in the hard drive.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesThere you go.
RaymundoThere's a lot of success stories out there like, and a lot of determined, more focused, pretty much, get shit done. Like whose success story pretty much inspires you the most.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleswell known, like celebrity wise we're have to be David Goggins.
RaymundoDavid yo yo, he's the bees. He was actually on my list with Medicaid. He makes the list twice. It's successful. It's
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleshe, he hits all of the, the principles automatically, honestly like that dude from reading his book and listening to what he does. Like there's no, he's, there's a reason why there's some shit that I had gone through when I listened to him, it helped me get through the stuff, the silence of my man and David.
Raymundonot the G Goggins. he's actually, some of his words didn't help me. I'm putting it out there. He'll be on the eventually, because the talk that self-help shit all day you heard about,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesDamn right. And I'll be, I'll be a psychic that day. I'll be guest host. I'll be year two. Your Jimmy Kimmel.
Raymundohe was overweight, fucking be Navy seal and yeah. And the shit he does like that. Well, he runs, I got three in the morning, four in the morning.
We've got to have the mentality to show up every fucking day of your life. About what life throws at you? It's our responsibility. Just all to the calcium of life. Prepare for fucking battle. I don't care what you're going through. We're like stone at you. It's your responsibility to find your new hundred percent. Take it upon yourself to do that.
RaymundoLike when I think about willpower, when I think about strength, determination, you know what he's gotta be at? He's definitely at the top of the
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYeah, He's definitely, definitely, It's just isn't that's like, his is just crazy. That's like, well-known like people that, like everybody that listens could know, but I got personal friends of mine that their determination is out of this world that they inspire me to keep going.
RaymundoWe need more friends like that. Those are the friends that, um, you know, they keep you on your game. But if you see you in a group that all you gotta do is talk about the problems and not the solutions. And, you know, you got to. Make a little change. Little change don't hurt nobody.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthe change it'll it'll affect you, but be prepared to deal with that group going to like, oh, you don't fuck with us no more. You don't do this. Not that I don't fuck with you guys. I love all my bros. I love all my, everybody that I'm with. It's just, we're just on a different Waveland.
RaymundoYeah. As long as sometimes it's not, you're not trying to say that Joe Wayne live is trash. I'm just trying to say, like, I don't want to be in that one. You don't want to be in mine. We w there is a way there is some way where we meet in the middle. We can hang out stuff like
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYeah, absolutely.
RaymundoI was reading a book, man, if you hang out with bakers, man, you going to be next, baking that bread.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesIf you hang out with millionaires, you might be the next million net.
RaymundoYeah, pretty much. You're going to be the next one because. That's just, it's just fucking science. what do you think make someone determine What's the key, like I would say like me is their actions, cause we could talk all this shit all day plan, all this shit. We could do all this shit, but what I do, you know, shut out the rates of doors. What I do defines me, I've used that before.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesHonestly, I'd have to, I would have to agree with you on that. It would probably be actions, but there's a lot of stuff behind the scenes with a lot of people that, cause it let's say you don't know me that much and I don't post nothing on social media. You don't really him talk. You just see that I'm doing this. You have no idea what I'm doing to be determined what I'm doing. You just know that. I just know that when something is posted, a lot of work is behind it, it has to be actions. I'm a firm believer of just getting my nose in it before I even say anything about it. for example, I never thought I would be on a podcast ever in my life. I never thought they would. and we discussed this.
Raymundoyou got podcast material in your brain, but like,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesso that's, that's the last conversation we had. You were just like, yo, you got material in your brain that the world needs to hear. But me personally, since I wasn't, I'm not the one that does the podcast and I was like, you know, it's something I'm interested in it, but, um, um, I don't think I'm ever going to be on it. And then literally this year, my boys are yo I'm, I'm starting to pockets where I want you to be. a guest on it. And I was like, cool. Cause I'm not people get a little camera shy or they get a little bit of photo microphone. We just having a good conversation.
RaymundoBefore, I'll be fine, but my body hasn't got the memo that yo, you know, you does this, my dude. So I still get like little jitters and I got to fucking drink coffee and I got to go outside and I do all this shit.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYeah, you got a pace four times exactly. Behind the desk is four times.
RaymundoAnd it's like, your eyes does this. You know what I'm saying? But, to me, I haven't done it or not. So that means I got to turn it up, turn up the volume,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesBut maybe that's your thing. Maybe this, this famous people. I go, let's say an example. Think Beyonce is one of the people that before she goes on stage, she has originally like, everybody's nervous, but she has to do something to get her prepared. Maybe that's your original, maybe you pacing back and forth or drinking coffee or knocking your head against the wall. Is.
RaymundoI did the last podcast I worked out and I meditated and I was like, I was peaceful, but I think I was like a little too peaceful. Cause every time I fast forward, I barely said shit. I was like, what the fuck? That was, that was, I had the episode though.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesHe was like, Yo man, you know, my guess was there was some bags, the segments of rocking, but
Raymundoyo shout out, shout out to Barry laminate. He did his thing. Yeah. So yeah, your attitude and your mindset, man, another three things combine those, gets you results and
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesabsolutely.
Raymundoone step closer. now I wanted to discuss the third principle, which I think, like I said, I know you don't have it in order of importance, like importance, but this is, to me, discipline is like the glue that holds everything together. I got books that say, yo, if you're not disciplined, close the fucking book right now, you know what I'm saying? Take a little bookmark a shove it up. You're like,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesBasically,
Raymundothis is crazy. Well, where do you actually rank it on your order of importance?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleshonestly, I honestly believe this number two, like as most, it's one of the most important things, because once you're dedicated to doing something determination and discipline can go, they could be two and three, but you got to have the discipline to actually get it done. You're determined to get something done, but the determination Kicks in Discipline drives your determination.
RaymundoDiscipline drive to the determination
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesyou wake up in the morning and you say, yeah, let's say you determined to lose 30 pounds. You're determined in your mind. You're determined. You're saying it a lot. Get all the affirmations. You got everything on the wall that you want. Discipline is what's going to get you to that.
Raymundothat's a fact
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleswhy it's most important. It's number two, two minutes.
Raymundodiscipline. Like it bleeds consistency. so I want to know too, because what's important in, having discipline, being dedicated, being determined is like, yo you're Y Having your why? What's your, why? Like, what's your main reasons for doing everything
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesto leave a positive imprint. Everybody that I've come in contact with
Raymundothat's fine. Legacy.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthat's my wife,
RaymundoIt's a little bit imprint on everybody that meets you.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAt the end of the day, like he lived a long life. He lived the good life, whatever, but Rube was salvaged from day one. That's, that's the why. That's why I do this. That's why I want everybody to be dedicated because I'm My words while they're just words coming after me may mean something to somebody else and may lead them to be like that millionaire, that billions, I'm not becoming the millionaire billionaire there. And, um, and that's what separates me is I'm extremely happy Like you did it. You've unlocked the level of success that you want to now, are you going to keep it? Are you. going to slack off a little bit? Are you just going to stay the course? Like I love hearing shit like that. Like, I'm a big success story person. Like all my family, all my friends, I want all of them to be the best
Raymundoyou know what I can, um, I can attest to that? Well, basically what I'm saying is I there's pretty much proof, like there's certain episodes that. Especially in season one if I had talked to you, it would have been a different episode. So you, you, you have that effect on people. That's what I'm saying. Yo, the soil podcast coming out 2023, get ready, maybe 2024, he stopped playing,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesYeah, and I have to get Jay, I have to get, I think as JZ, I have to get his approval for the, um, um, just to use it in the beginning.
Raymundoloopholes 15 seconds,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesNah, I, listen, I'm not messing with hole on that. Like if I could get them on a podcast, that'd be great.
Raymundothere's not, the whole debate is love yo don't sleep on the three principles that you apply them is almost automatic. Yeah. So actually how, how did you deal with discipline as a kid?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesOh, man. you mean like having discipline or getting discipline?
Raymundoboth.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI was all over the place as a kid, but I'm going to be out as a It was, I only drew a lot because I love to do it. And it was kind of, I can't say an escape because I had a really great towel that I can't front. Topamax, like, it was great, like, my discipline was different. It was like whether it was playing a video game, determined to beat the shit. Like how I, when I spoke, I learned at a very young age, like when I focused something, I can't do else until.
RaymundoThat's a, that's a good trait to have, especially, um, yeah. I remember working with you with the logo. Like he was like, yo, it's getting done today. I'm a, we went back and forth with them. When you added that yellow. That was it. When you add the yellow, that was it. It was over.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesWhat was funny about that on what I'm literally working on it. And I remember I told you the process, it could take weeks, it could take like a month or so. Like, you know, it's just, however we move that student. Like two days you were like, what? You get the shit down. I say, listen, man, when I have it in my head, I can't sleep.
RaymundoThat's good though, man. to be successful it's early nights, early mornings, late nights,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesIt was late night, late nights, late nights, early morning until late. and that ladies And gentlemen is how he operates.
Raymundonow. But I'm there with discipline you. I used to really get my ass whooped, like out of all, out of all my siblings, bro. And like, I'm not even mad at my mom's boat. Cause like a lot of my funny memories is me saying it's just some shit in my mom, like hitting me for it or some shit, I feel like I was always destined to do some type of entertainment.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesBecause you was, there was, the entertainment at
Raymundothe entertainment at the crib and the finishing ag was getting my ass whooped like ladies and gentlemen. That's all.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesNo, that's when the credits rolled that the credits are rolling to.
RaymundoYeah. One time they, I don't know if I ever said this in a podcast, but when I was like 10 years old and I was chilling with my little shorty on a block
rube-aka-soilla-the-principleshe was out there in the streets, bro.
RaymundoI just see my mother. Coming down the black with the belt and I'm like, damn, I can't let her walk my ass for no, my girl, that's when I learned I could joke. I know how to joke. Like my mom came left, I went right. Fake right roster. And
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesSo you had to
Raymundoran to the crib every time, what's funny in ABC seven man, shut up. He called my mom. Right. And my mom waited for me after he spoke to her, she was like, yo Rico, me. I was like, yo man, I see what the crib. She was like, yo, come here. She chased me around the school for like, two periods. literally duck in and all that. Like I, you know what I did, I went to the principal's office and I just hid them. I was like, if she hit me. Like ain't nobody here. I'll take the head. Well, you know, a high school, bro. I feel like my worst field was getting smacked by my moms or for everybody.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesAnd especially in front of every row,
Raymundoman. But thank God it didn't happen. what are some resources like you use to help you, with the principles
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesa lot of military.
RaymundoYo ma
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesA
Raymundomeditation, every time I'm in a funk, anytime there's never been a time. I meditated and I felt great after.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesmy problem is I meditate and then I fall asleep. Like literally I'm like, God damn it, that wasn't supposed to happen. but afterwards I feel good. A lot of meditation, I read a lot, but it's I got books everywhere, bro. Like I literally got there, had this pulling out. I got shout out to Gary V I got his book right here. Like
RaymundoYeah,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesI'm just, I'm constantly reading. I'm constantly trying to keep my mind focused. and as of recently, like last six months, the gym, has gets me refocused
Raymundoso what does the future hold for the soul iller brand?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesit's basically the brand? is going to be so ill at being out there has, is basically what is
Raymundoyou're going to be the definition of the
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthe plan The plan is just to push it out more, just to see more people with it, just see more people enthusiastic about it and just to see people being so ill at what they do. And like, that's the, that's just the biggest thing. I want everyone to just look within themselves and be like, I'm dedicated to doing this. I'm determined to get it done. I'm disciplined enough to do it every day. Like I walk people's mind change mine, like their mindsets to change because this world has so much negativity in it that it's easy to fall off a path, with the So Ella brand is doing it. Being that person that's on the path that you follow. Can I extend the handout? And I'm like, yo, let's get you back on.
Raymundofine.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthe goal. that's what I want to see.
RaymundoWhat role does fear play in your life? I always ask this question because I feel like the reason why I'm not a famous comedian, the reason why I'm. A great supporting actor and a top-notch podcasters because I let fear get in my fucking way. So I always like to ask people like, what, where's it at again, life?
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesProbably the biggest role fear is probably the reason why I do a lot of what I do and it still gets me. I still get this. Where I won't do things because I like, I have that fear, like, oh shit, what, what will happen? What might not? And I'm still working on that. It's a work in progress. But this year I decided to, literally say whatever, do at least three things or four, three to five things this year that I fear the most. One of them was putting out this clothing that cause everybody fears, failure. I welcome it. I now welcome it. It's necessary, like you have to fail.
RaymundoIt's the only way, like, if you want to fly, you gotta understand that you might fall. So you can't let the force stop you from flying. Like Superman you're hurt and you can't bullshit, you
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesthere you go. Well, first of all, first of all, we both Batman fan. So let's not, let's not bring up Superman again,
RaymundoSuperman flies. So I had to bring them up, but yeah, definitely Batman, Batman, yo, shout out the Robert Patterson again.
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesshout out to just Batman in general.
Raymundoout to all the Batman's. If somebody wanted to find. get, um, something from the clothing line where she has hoodies hats. You have the shirt. That's dope. I like the shirt, man. It's real. It's smooth. You know what I'm saying? With the,
rube-aka-soilla-the-principlesOh, this
Raymundoyeah, yeah. Actually the one he's wearing right now, I've been seeing you promote it. And I just see the white ones. I know. Oh, it comes in black, like the back,
